Radiology is the branch or specialty of medicine that deals with the study and application of imaging technologies, such as x-rays or MRI, to diagnose and treat disease. Radiologists direct and interpret an array of imaging technologies including x-rays, fluoroscopy, mammography, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), nuclear medicine, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Interventional radiology is the performance of medical procedures using the guidance of imaging technologies and as such are usually minimally invasive. The acquisition of medical imaging is usually carried out by a radiology technologist under the direction of the attending MD radiologist.
